The Challenge

Acces to medical services has long been a challenge especially to people with low income who cannot easily acces Health insurance especially mothers and young children.

The Intervention

M-PESA foundation partnered with Carepay to launch M-Tiba, which is a mobile phone service that allows people to send, save

and spend funds specifically for medical bills using their mobile phones. Money stored in M-Tiba can only be used to pay for treatment and medication at select partner clinics and hospitals.

Since the introduction of M-Tiba in partnership with Carepay, the service has gained over 1,238,774 users and 262,266 clinic visits. During this period, M-Tiba has made medical pay out amounting to Ksh. 442, 835, 554.
